2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1 small yellow onion, finely chopped (about 1 cup)

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

4 cups vegetable or chicken broth

1-1/2 cups dry ditalini or small shell pasta, uncooked

1 bag (10 oz each) Birds Eye® Steamfresh Petite Peas

1/4 cup shredded Parmesan or Pecorino Romano cheese, plus more for serving

Directions

Step one
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add onion and saute until soft and lightly golden, 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper.

Pour in broth. Increase heat to medium-high and bring to a boil. Stir in pasta. Cook until pasta is al dente, about 8 minutes. If you like your pasta to be brothy and soupy, cover pan with lid while pasta cooks. If you prefer a thicker sauce, cook uncovered.

While pasta cooks, microwave peas according to package directions.

Stir 1/4-cup Parmesan cheese into cooked pasta. Stir in cooked peas, taste for seasoning, and serve!
Tips
Add 4 oz finely chopped pancetta with onion for a meatier flavored sauce. Finish your pasta with a little lemon zest and fresh chopped parsley for an extra layer of flavor!
